What an adventure!

On a lazy Sunday morning yesterday, we took our kayak to another launching pad at Pasir Pandak. The day was overcast and cool but clouds were quite high. Bro Hin and Bro Yu took out the kayak first and took it across the river mouth on calm waters and spoke to some fishermen. Apparently the fishing was not bad and then they spotted an Irrawaddy dolphin came up and down a couple of times. Fisherman says it is good sign that there are fishes but with the dolphin hanging around it was better to move on... so Bro Hin and Bro Yu took a scenic tour before coming back to shore.

Then it was Bee and my turn to take it out. We paddled up river and then decided to take it across the river mouth too... At this stage, we could see some dark heavy clouds in the horizon but not taking much notice we paddled till we reached a desolated beach across before deciding it was home time.... Then bang.... the clouds came in a flash... the calm waters were now choppy and the receding tide was quickly sweeping us to open waters. Fighting a losing battle we decided to go back to the desolated beach to take cover and wait. We reached there and waited for 30 minutes in the driving rain and wind.

Then it cleared a bit and we decided to move to a fishing boat which was anchored about 50 metres out in the river and get some assistance. We reached them and at this stage the wave was about 2 feet+ in height. They invited us aboard to take shelter and wait out the storm. Both Bee and I got sea sick from the rocking boat. After an hour's wait, the skies cleared more and the water appeared calmer so we decided it was time to head home. However, we struggled and paddled in metre high waves till we reach the shore... soaking wet and cold... thanking our lucky stars...

The kayak had saved us as it is amazing how stable it was... not once did it threatened to roll over in the rising swells... even when we stood on it upright to board the fishing boat.

We need an "aqua" camera next so that we can capture our next wet and wild kayak adventure!!

Preparing to launch...
